The house of Piper & Charles Heidsieck, the most awarded in Champagne, is celebrated in The Champagne Guide 2012-2013, the new champagne buying guide from International Champagne Writer of the Year Tyson Stelzer.
Tyson Stelzer comments:
Piper-Heidsieck Cuvée Brut NV,
"A very fresh, primary and citrus-driven champagne, layered with summer white fruits, apple and toast. Two-and-a-half years on lees instils its bright fruitiness with a rounded maturity. It’s complete, fine, and excellent value, making it perfect for weddings, parties, anything." 92/100
Charles Heidsieck Brut Réserve NV,
"A golden colour and dried flower and autumn leaf notes reflect the maturity of a high proportion of reserve wines and long ageing on lees. It melds the texture of apple and pear with the juicy intensity of stonefruits on a softly mineral palate of attractive depth and gentle, caressing persistence." 93/100
The reviews were carried out after tastings in both France and Australia this year and the House rating is based exclusively on the quality of the cuvées in the market this year. The House also features in the Champagne Guide’s Hall of Honour.
Founded in 1785, Piper & Charles Heidsieck is one of the oldest Grande Maison de Champagne. Under renowned Cellar Master Régis Camus, the House has become the most awarded after expert recognition at both the International Wine Challenge and Decanter World Wine Awards.
